Assuming your appearance does not change, your headshots should be refreshed about every two years. Other factors can result in needing a new headshot sooner, but a current look is crucial.

An updated headshot brings attention to your new role, so you want to spruce it up to look the part and establish yourself.
3. YOU NEED MORE VARIETY
You do not want to use the same headshot for different events, such as your headshot on your company website vs. your headshot for speaking at events. Communicate with your photographer on what you are looking for, and what are the different elements that make up your professional image.
