PPA Charities Giving Tuesday

Black Friday’s Awesome Cousin

You are probably familiar with Black Friday (maybe too familiar), but there are also the slightly lesser known siblings: Small Business Saturday and Cyber Monday. There is an even lesser known (but more important) cousin called Giving Tuesday. Back in 2012, the Belfer Center for Innovation and Social Impact in New York created Giving Tuesday as a way to harness the power of social media to push a global charitable initiative. During the holidays, Giving Tuesday has become an incredible way to promote philanthropy and end of the year giving while many charities have begun to take advantage of the event in order to raise funds.

How We Get Involved

Charitable giving is a big part of our overall life and business strategy and for the last few years we have been heavily involved with PPA Charities, the philanthropic arm of our national professional association. PPA Charities gives photographers the opportunity to use what they do best to help others by including charitable events and marketing in their businesses. By using it’s ability to fund raise and pass those funds to other charities, PPA Charities has raised hundreds of thousands of dollars for many great causes, including more than half a million dollars raised for Operation Smile!

In honor of Giving Tuesday, PPA Charities hosted an all day Facebook LIVE event with photography educators all over the country. Think of it as a pledge-a-thon aimed at professional photographers. Thirty instructors gave more than 50 presentations over 16 hours and raised $12k for charity. The entire library of educational videos will remain on the PPA Charities Facebook Page.

Here is a promo video we made leading up to the event:
